Uganda Press Photo Award

What is it?

The Uganda Press Photo Award was created to recognize the individuals who record the visual history of this country, working tirelessly and sometimes taking great risk so that the rest of us can stay informed about what is happening.

The award aims to promote the best of today’s photojournalism in Uganda as well as encouraging a new generation of photographers. It also seeks to remind the viewing public of the importance of a vibrant press for democratic development.

The Uganda Press Photo Award was conceived by the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.

What’s in it for you?

The winner of the main prize, the Uganda Press Photo of the Year Award, will receive a Nikon D300s camera sponsored by the U.S. Mission to Uganda to enable them to continue their valuable work with the right tools for the job.

Other prizes will be awarded to winners of all categories, and are generously supported by Definition Africa.

The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda also supports a program of free training sessions for photographers, with all lessons taught by internationally recognized photographers.
